I learned how to be the perfect mother-in-law from my mother. Early on, when my brother married, she told him she would never create issues for him and his family when it came to holiday family gatherings. She only wanted Thanksgiving Day. (His in-laws, not his wife, made demands on their children)
So here we are, 35 years later, still making a BIG DEAL out of Thanksgiving, setting a place for those who are missing from the family table. We also get together on Palm Sunday (not this year because of Dad's recent death), Memorial Day Sunday, Labor Day Sunday, and New Year's Day. We've made our own family holidays. Family Traditions...

just me and the hubs today for dinner. I had the kids last Sunday to dinner and I get them next Sunday. I just feed them every other Sunday and if it falls in the holiday then I feed them if it doesn't, I don't. That way it frees them up to go to their inlaws if necessary.
Quiet day here. The kids all live back in the Midwest, so it's just Mike, Mom and me. I'm making a baked egg, cheese and sausage casserole, cinnamon rolls and fruit for dinner this evening.
