I'm the same way - sometimes I want a sketch, sometimes a sketch just sort of "paralyzes" me!

I'm more of a scrap lifter than anything else. Occasionally I'll use a sketch but not very often.

I almost always start with a sketch. Sometimes I make a lot of changes and by the time I'm done it's difficult ti "see" the sketch in my finished layout, and other times I follow the sketch to a T.
