Do you use colored cardstock as your layout base or do you use pattern paper?

I used to always use plain cardstock and build up from there but now with all the amazing pattern papers I have started to use pattern paper.

I always use a cardstock base.

I almost always use a plain cardstock base and then add some kind of background work to it.

Mostly white cardstock or patterened papers. Coloured cardstock for mainly matting or die cutting.

I usually use both but probably more cardstock than pp.

When I first started I used almost all colored cardstock backgrounds, then I moved on to using just white cardstock backgrounds with sometimes a colored cardstock mat. Lately, I've been using subtle patterned paper as my background and sometimes matting it with cardstock.
