Join us as we flock together to complete this month's "Birds of a Feather" themed challenges. While this old proverb is true of all of us who share the same love for putting our memories on scrapbook pages or creating beautiful cards, the focus is not on us, but on the various birds that surround us with their beautiful colors, their varied songs, and their nest building skills. They may hang around our yards splashing in a bird bath and enjoying a free meal or they may make their home in a zoo. Perhaps they were a once in a lifetime sighting or a pet you enjoy every day. Big or small, they may frighten us or delight us. We use their names to describe others...you wise old owl, she's as colorful as a peacock, he's just a little songbird. They have stared in movies and inspired songs and poetry. And these amazing creatures have even risen to the heights of being honored as state and national symbols. So, get ready!! The birds are coming!

Remember - A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations.

Prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate to their favorite online store (random drawing).....

Today our bird is the egret. It is a tall, stately white wader of quiet waters. Common, especially in the south, it may wander far to the north in late summer. Nearly wiped out in the United States in the late 1800s, when its plumes were sought for use in fashion, the Great Egret made a comeback after early conservationists put a stop to the slaughter and protected its colonies; as a result, this bird became the symbol of the National Audubon Society.

I chose this bird because it lives near the water and my photos were near water. Water surrounds the island of Alcatraz. A place I always wanted to visit and we finally did.
MY CHALLENGE: Use white as your main color. It is the main color of the bird.
You can use two other colors. I chose green and just a tiny bit of pink.
Also include some of your own handwriting.

Egrets are so pretty...saw a lot with babies when we went to Gatorland a couple years ago.
Wonderful page Phillis and great challenge! I've always wanted to see Alcatraz also.

The Western Meadowlark is the state bird of Oregon and the grape flower is the state flower. I have a hand tremor so do not write on a layout.

Here's mine. Used lots of white and added green and brown plus handwriting. :)

Photos of daughter Michelle and her family many years ago. They are still a Marshall Herd family and go to most games. :)
