APRIL 17 CHALLENGE -- SPRING CLEANING!

Post by BarbP »

Once again, I'm behind on getting this posted; Mom needed some extra help and reassurance today. Moving right along.....

Join us all month long in April as we post challenges based on the "age-old cliche" - April Showers Bring May Flowers. Challenges will be based on the weather, the season, spring colors, flowers, etc ...literally the possibilities are limitless... A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Wednesday and Saturday, and participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations. The prize will be a $10 gift certificate to the winner's favorite online store (the winner is chosen by random drawing).....

*Any month that we have more than 50 completed layouts/creations, the prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate instead of $10.

SPRING CLEANING.... it's a spring ritual that can strike terror in the hearts of packrats like me. Regardless of my reluctance to get rid of things, it has to be done or we would be buried up to our ears in "useless junk". For today's challenge, we're going to some FUN spring cleaning. My challenge to you is to find at least three items in your scrap stash that have been there for a year or more and use them on your layout, card or other project.

My layout today celebrates a beautiful, smart and very brave girl -- my 11-year-old granddaughter, Anna. I posted a while ago about her batle with a disorder called trichotillomania, or the compulsion to pull out her hair. Her mom saw a lot of research suggesting that clipping or shaving the hair close to the scalp; this often helps the individual to break the pattern. Anna was afraid to get her hair shaved, so her stepdad went along and got his hair shaved also. Anna's mom reports that Anna is working hard at managing her condition. My layout today is made mostly of papers and embellishments that have been in my stash for too long. I included the color red for courage and butterflies for hope. The "coin" in the bottom corner stands for bravery. (I journaled after I uploaded the layout, placing the words under the photo)

Post your finished projects in this thread by May 3 for a chance at the prize. Happy scrapping!

It won't be hard to find stuff over a year old!
Great layout of a special experience that most people don't talk about. She was very brave to shave her hair and what a loving gesture from her step dad.

Old washi tape, crazy big pink grommets, and an older stampin'up dinosaur stamp.

So I decided to use our Easter table favors for this challenge since I made 10. The paper is new BUT the paper I used to punch the flowers and the punch and the diamonds are all old. Also the metal I used on my Nephews book is making memories and we all know how old that is.

This is such an awesome example, Barb! What. a courageous young woman!
This will be a fun project for me. I have SO many pp and items from at least 5 years ago that I could fill an entire album with pages just from old stuff.

Beth, I adore the colors on your page. Thank you for reminding me of all the grommets still waiting to be used in my stash.

Tamara, I LOVE those cool party favors. What a clever idea to use up old stash!
