February 2025 - Fairy Tales
On February 26th we Celebrate "National Tell a Fairy Tale Day" - But why not celebrate it all MONTH long?? This month we intend to do just that! Let's celebrate the folklore genre and the stories of magic, enchantments and mythical beings that all take place "Once Upon a Time".
A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday (sketch), Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations in the Cookin' up Creations Gallery.
Prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate to their favorite online store (random drawing)....
Today's fairy tale, A Treasure's Trove, is an fairy tale about friendship and greed, Good and Evil Fairies, and how love is greater than fear. The book is also a real treasure hunt and contains clues to 12 valuable treasures scattered across the Unites States!
Your challenge is to create a layout about a treasure you've acquired. It could be a good find at an estate sale, like my layout, or perhaps a family heirloom that you have inherited. It could also be a favorite piece of jewelry or your very best friend...anything that you treasure is acceptable for this challenge! You'll need to tell the story of your treasure, so include journaling on your page and, since most treasures are older, add a vintage look by distressing some edges.
My example is a page for my 8"X8" December Daily album about two antique Avon cologne bottles we found at an estate sale. I used a pair of scissors to rough up the edges of my papers and really like the dimension that added to the page. Have fun creating everyone!!

My treasure is these Anna boots I got for free! Lots of journaling. I used my fingernail to distress the outer edges of my page, but that got cut off when I took a photo.

My photo mats are lightly distressed, so they are hard to see. I need to get my grandson's albums done before June, so I needed to change up the challenge to his treasure instead of mine.
