Tipping…….

it seems everywhere I go these days, businesses are asking for more money. Goodwill employees ask if you want to round up, pizza joints are asking for a tip for picking up your own pizza. Is it like that in your area, or is it just mine? I understand tipping when you sit down at a restaurant to eat, but why ask for a tip if you’re getting a carry out pizza?

It is the same here. It started during COVID and never went away. Rounding up around here is because of the pennies no longer being made. I went through a drive-through the other day, and my change would have been .28, but they only gave me a quarter....seems like they should have given me the .05 instead of me giving them the .03.

yup, tipping is everywhere now. Sometimes I just don't tip. I was a waitress so I understand tipping for the service, but other places not so enthusiastic about it. Then the whole penny thing. Not sure where we are headed. My friend's son lives in New York City and he says they prefer you use a card, no cash at all

Yes it came about during Covid and like Patti said it never went away. We didn't mind the extra tipping because it kept the businesses open. Our favorite Chinese place went almost a year doing just drive up because they didn't have the help to waitress or deliver drivers to even open. Sometimes businesses round up for donations to children's hospitals or other needy places but now there are signs about no pennies.

It's the same here. What upsets me is when they add a service charge for the kitchen staff before you add a tip and they won't take it off. Since when did we have to tip non-service workers?

It is getting ridiculous! I tip deliveries but just 10%, because I’m already paying the expensive memberships and sometimes the prices are higher on line than at the store. Pizza Hut are the only ones asking for a tip when we order pizza to pick up. The rounding up for a special charity when you pay, in my opinion, is a scam. We pay for the charity and the business gets the tax break. The business doesn’t give any part of their earnings to the charity.

Small businesses around here charge extra if you use a card.

It's the same around here with everyone wanting to add a tip. We tip pretty well when we go out to dinner and sit down, have a waitress, but it's hard to tip when you just go pick up your food. Also our small businesses charge extra using a card.
