A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday (sketch), Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations in the Cookin' up Creations Gallery.

Prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate to their favorite online store (random drawing).....

Today’s challenge is about fish scales. Fish scales are small, rigid plates that grow from the fishes, skin to provide protection from predators and their environment. They come in many variations of color, but typically are a scallop shape. Reflective fish scales, often with a silvery or iridescent appearance are not just for decoration; they play a vital role in camouflage and predator avoidance. The reflective properties are typically due to guanine crystals embedded within the scales. These crystals act like tiny mirrors, scattering light and making the fish appear less conspicuous in their environment.

In addition to the sketch below, please use scallops and something reflective on your layout.

In my example I used scallop border diecuts in varying shades of orange and scattered sequins as my reflective element.

I can’t wait to see your take on this challenge! Have fun and happy scrapping!
