December 3, 2025 The Spotted Elephant Challenge

Join us as we celebrate the wonderfully “imperfect” side of creativity. After all, just like a spotted elephant or a train with square wheels, every scrapbook page deserves a little love and a whole lot of sparkle.

So dust off those forgotten supplies, rescue those unfinished pages, and let’s give our “misfit” projects a happy home — one glittery layout at a time!

December 3, 2025 The Spotted Elephant Challenge

Post by Lolis »

This December, we’re taking a magical trip to the Island of Misfit Toys — where every imperfect creation finds its place and every quirky layout shines! Whether your photos don’t quite match, your embellishments march to their own beat, or your color combos are just a little offbeat, this is the month to embrace the beauty of being unique.

Join us at Cookin' up Creations as we celebrate the wonderfully “imperfect” side of creativity. After all, just like a spotted elephant or a train with square wheels, every scrapbook page deserves a little love and a whole lot of sparkle.

So dust off those forgotten supplies, rescue those unfinished pages, and let’s give our “misfit” projects a happy home — one glittery layout at a time!

A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday (sketch), Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations in the Cookin' up Creations Gallery.

Prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate to their favorite online store (random drawing).....

For today’s challenge we’re celebrating everything delightfully mismatched, just like the spotted elephant from the Island of Misfit Toys!

Your challenge:
• Use circles or polka dots on your project.
• Add at least one element that’s “unexpected” : a tilted photo, an odd embellishment, a color that doesn’t quite match, a leftover piece from another collection, etc.
• And for a creative twist, use a stencil somewhere on your layout, any design, any technique!

For my example I rescued, finished, and added pictures to one of the layouts from a past Vicki Boutin’s class. The Spotted Elephant theme comes through with the playful mix of circle embellishments and polka-dot patterns on the background pages. I added my “unexpected element” by using the circle with the mushroom and tilting the photos. To complete the challenge, I incorporated soft stenciled images in the background using a blending brush and ink pad technique.

Give your “misfit” supplies a loving home and show off those unique combinations that make your layout shine.

Here's mine using Circles + One Element Tilted (photo) + Tim Holtz Speckles Stencil. I used silver texture paste which is mostly covered up by the photos and blue for misting. :)

{Sorry for the shadows from my scanner.}
