RQOTD: August 23rd

Post by LisanTexas »

Good morning!! What is your favorite place to visit in your town/city...someplace you take your out of town guests or even someplace that makes your town "famous"?

In Fort Worth we have a lot of places but I love going to The StockYards to either eat or shop when the weather is nice. The only draw back can be there are a lot of tourists at times....but whenever anyone visits us they always want to go to Buc-ees! It's fun but visiting a gas station is not my idea of a fun time lol! I guess I like to shop in a boutique not a gas station!! For those of you who don't know what Buc-ees is, it is a chain of VERY LARGE gas stations (I think they call themselves travel stations) in Texas (they might have them elsewhere now as I think they have been expanding) that is known for it's Beaver Nuggets, clean bathrooms, and large number of gas pumps....like they say everything is bigger in Texas!

So many places in our town. Temple Square, City Creek and Gateway open air malls. Lots of yummy restaurants. The canyons are close. The zoo, museums and all kinds of things!

I don't have any real visitors. My visitors are usually a close family member. However, our little city has a few options........i.e. local restaurants, antique stores, Revolutionary War Site, Camden Steeplechase and Carolina Cup events.

We really don't have visitors either except for Jackie and the babies. We always go to Indian park to feed the ducks a few times when she's here.

We also have the Little League World Series held in Williamsport, put sadly it was cancelled this year.

Scrapbooking....is there really anything else?

We have a few things to go to in our town - local restaurants, dinosaur museum, etc.

Been to a Bucee's - it was fun, but can't say I would want to go all the time

Buc-ee’s is awesome! The bathrooms are huge and super-clean! If you are close to one, you definitely hold it until you get there.
We live in a small town where there is very little to do. We have a Walmart superstore and we even have a movie theater. We also have very unique flavors. We have local restaurants, Tacos Aka, for example with authentic Mexican food. There’s lots of birdwatching and butterflies seasonal migrations. President Carter visited our town to see the butterflies migration once. We have a historical fort and a few haunted places and cemeteries that have been the subject of TV shows. Our town is also very proud of a replica of the grotto at Massabielle where St Bernadette's visions took place. There are several museums and regularly local artists get featured to display their art work. There is also a tour that you can take. It will take you to visit all our historical places and art work around our city on our beautiful Trolley BetsyII. It is named after one our historical steamboats that once navigated through the Rio Grande River. We are also home to the famous 5 star general, General Sanchez, he was born and raised in this humble little town. I usually take my students on the trolley tour every year and some of the cultural festivities we have in town. For the last 3, maybe 4, years I’ve organized a Kindness Rocks club at my school. Students and teachers paint rocks with messages and we spread the rocks at the different places we stop during the tours. I love my hometown and I’m very proud of it!

If you were to come to visit my town, we could all have a a pajama scrapbook party at the historical, and haunted, La Borde House. We could go shopping and take a stroll at our historical downtown and plaza. Also, we could definitely take the trolley tour of my historical city! If you were to bring your passport, in less then 15 minutes, we could even cross the border and be shopping in Mexico! Of course, due to Covid 19 and the violence in the Mexican little town it wouldn’t be advisable right now. 🙁 The good all days we took everything for granted!

There's not much to do in my town. We have a bowling alley and like 6 good restaurants (not including the chains). Everyone around here likes going to Elegant Farmer which has baked apple pie and you can pick apples. We do have a Walmart super center. If you really want to do something fun you have to drive to Waukesha and Milwaukee.

I live in Miamisburg, Ohio which is the home of one of two of the largest conical Indian Mounds in North America. We often take visitors to the top of the Mound for the view of the area. We have a charming downtown area along the Miami River (hence my town's name) with some excellent Mom & Pop restaurants & stores. But typically if someone is coming in from far away, we usually take them to either Cincinnati or Dayton. My town is nestled between the two although closer to Dayton. Definitely some fun things to do in both towns. Especially if you love baseball!
